Data services in a service-oriented architecture

I'm in process on an OTN paper that describes the value of data management, data access, and data distribution services in a service-oriented architecture.

Abstract
Enterprises have identified and implemented application functionality as services that can participate in orchestrated business processes. These services are vertical in nature, specific to a business function. The value that can be obtained from this flexibility is gated by the quality of the data that participates in these services. This paper encourages organizations to take a horizontal view of the organization at a data level, to identify and implement data management functionality as services, and to store the data such that it meets the corporate needs for business information.

What are your thoughts on this? Can you give examples of data services that have added value to an overall enterprise architecture?

Be sure to check back for the full article in late February.

Oracle ACE

Today, I was designated as an Oracle ACE. Oracle ACEs are Oracle community enthusiasts and advocates. And that is certainly a platform I'm passionate about!

Welcome!

Welcome to my new blog pages. I plan to cover subjects in Enterprise Architecture, data integration, application integration, SOA, and so much more in the middleware space. Enjoy!
